CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – An emotional night of recognition for a veteran in Chicopee.
William Savard was a marine, who served in Vietnam, and was recently diagnosed with cancer and told 22News it is life threatening. On Friday night, Savard received a medal, “Quilt of Valor,” and an in-home hospital bed, to make him more comfortable during his treatments.
“People took time out of their schedule to remember an old Vietnam veteran like me and to present me with this. This is better than getting the medal. It means a lot, it really does,” said William Savard.
Members of the newly-formed western Massachusetts chapter of the “Quilts of Valor Foundation” made the quilt that was given to Savard. He is the first western Massachusetts veteran to receive one of these quilts.
