CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Friday morning’s cold weather is officially record-setting! The official temperature at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee reached -12 degrees, breaking the old record of -9 degrees for this date, which was set on February 6, 1996.
It was even colder in Berkshire and Franklin Counties, with readings of -20 degrees in North Adams, -18 in Pittsfield, and -15 degrees in Greenfield.
By the mid-morning, temperatures in the lower Pioneer Valley managed to make it above zero, and 22News Storm Team Meteorologist Adam Strzempko says that temperatures could make it into the 20s during the day Friday.
