Activists looking to increase HIV-AIDS awareness in Springfield

Community outreach event held in Mason Square

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The New North Citizens Council Thursday turned the Mason Square Branch Library’s community room into an HIV/AIDS educational center.

For the fourth year in a row, the council has reached out with its health programs at Mason Square and Springfield’s North End neighborhood.

Laceisha McBride of the New North Citizens Council told 22News it’s all about trying to educate the community.

“It’s important for people to know their status,” McBride said.

The New North Citizens Council has two AIDS testing locations in Springfield: their drop-in center at 2594 Main Street and on Catharine Street at Mason Square, across the street from the Rebecca Johnson School.
