(WVTM) – A Birmingham, Alabama woman used a hammer to protect herself during a home invasion early Tuesday morning.
77-year-old Mary Finch was asleep in her home when she was confronted by an intruder trying to get into her bedroom. “He started to push in and he and I wrestled at the door for a while but he overpowered me and come on in,” she said.
Finch described her intruder as a 17- or 18-year-old male carrying a gun. “‘Where your money at? Where your money at? Where your money at?’ I told him, ‘I don’t have any money,'” Finch said.
Moments later, with a suspect holding a gun on her, Finch quietly grabbed a hammer on an end table and decided to defend herself. “I said, ‘If you’re going to shoot, you better shoot,’ I said, ‘I’m going to get you,’ I said about three times ‘Are you going to shoot?,’ I kept going like this, and he made a move towards me and I hit him on his hands, hit him on his fingers,” she said.
