Video depicts ISIS militants torturing hostage

Al-Kasasbeh was captured by ISIS in December

(CNN) – ISIS militants appear to have executed another hostage. Pictures published to an official media page depict the horrific death of a Jordanian pilot.

Just days after releasing video of the beheading of a Japanese journalist, ISIS has released another video, this one purportedly showing the execution of a Jordanian military pilot.

The video appears to show Moath al-Kasasbeh burned alive in a cage. Though it was released Tuesday, Jordanian State TV reports the pilot was actually killed one month ago.

US President Barack Obama said, “Should in fact this video be authentic, it’s just one more indication of the viciousness and barbarity of this organization. Whatever ideology they’re operating off of, it’s bankrupt.”

Al-Kasasbeh was captured by ISIS in December. He had been flying in U.S.-led coalition airstrikes near Raqqa, Syria, when he was forced to eject from his plane.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said, “The Jordanians have been stalwart members of this broader international coalition that’s executing a strategy to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL, and we’re gonna continue to stand with them, even in this very difficult, tragic time.”

In January, ISIS had purportedly issued an ultimatum to Jordan: release convicted terrorist Sajida al-Rishawi, or al-Kasasbeh would be killed. U.S. intelligence officials believe the pilot was dead well before ISIS issued the threat.

King Abdullah and members of the Jordanian government have been in Washington attending bilateral meetings. The trip has been cut short, and they will be returning to Jordan.

Abdullah II said, “In those difficult moments, it is the duty of all the sons and daughters of Jordan to stand together in one rank and show the true medal of the Jordanian people.”
