CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP)– Many parts of western Massachusetts had more than a foot of snow pile up on Monday, which means there is plenty of shoveling left to do.
Low temperatures kept the snow a light and fluffy consistency, but as we get through the week, our 22News Storm Team says warmer temps will make it wetter and heavier.
Health experts advise you try pushing the snow to the side instead of lifting it to protect yourself from injury. When you’re shoveling snow remember to take it in small doses, take frequent breaks, and stay well hydrated.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn that cold weather puts an extra strain on the heart, so if you have heart disease or high blood pressure, its especially important that you work slowly and don’t over do it.
A few reminders as you clean out your driveway and sidewalk Tuesday:
- Remember to a clear path to your mailbox, so you can get your mail delivered.
- Make sure to shovel out any neighboring fire hydrants.
- If you heat your home with oil, and you’re expecting a delivery soon, shovel out a path to your filler pipe.
- You also want to make sure you’re dressed appropriately for the temperature. Dress in layers and leave as little exposed skin as possible.
