Never a good idea to leave kids & pets in the car

Extremely cold temperatures could cause hypothermia

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – On hot summer days, temperatures skyrocket in your car. Similarly, on cold winter days, temperatures inside your car will plunge once you turn the car off.

The extreme cold can expose your kids and pets to hypothermia. “As soon as you turn your car off, the temperatures in those vehicles drop,” Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk said. “When you think about it, when you’re in your home and its 60 degrees you’re cold. You can imagine a car at 10 degrees outside, how quickly that’s going to cool off.”

Even if your car’s running, Officer Wilk said you should always bring your kids with you and never leave them in the car.
