Bars crowded Sunday night to watch the Super Bowl

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Many students at UMass in Amherst stayed on campus Sunday night to cheer on the Patriots.

However, others flocked to sports bars to watch the Super Bowl on multiple big screens. 22News stopped by Stackers in Amherst and found crowds of Patriots fans rooting for their team.

Joshua Brown, a UMass student, dressed up in costume to prove his loyalty to the Pats. He told 22News just making it to the Super Bowl is a big deal to die hard fans like himself, “We worked hard for this, we did. We took names, we kicked butt all season, we had some mistakes but guess what, we learned from them.”

Brown called himself “The Iron Patriot.” He wanted to prove that he’ll always be the Patriots number one fan.

Stackers wasn’t the only area bar packed with Pats fans. 22News stopped by Samuel’s Sports Bar at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield.

However, basketball wasn’t the sport people were talking about. Football fans had their eyes glue to the big screens. They wore their jerseys and enjoyed a few drinks and some great food with friends.
