CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The snowstorm is gone and now people are left cleaning up. If you don’t clear the snow away from your sidewalks you could face paying a fine.
Most areas here in western Massachusetts picked up between 6 and 12 inches of snow from our latest snowstorm and now that the snow has stopped falling it’s time to clean it up. If you have a sidewalk in front of your home it’s your responsibility to clear the snow off of it so someone doesn’t end up getting hurt.
Jack O’Donnell of Holyoke told 22News, “First of all you don’t want people falling and they should be shoveled because people have to walk and if they walk in the road that’s dangerous.”
Most cities and towns require you to clear your sidewalks within 24 hours after a storm. If you don’t you could face paying a fine anywhere from $25 to $100 dollars.
If you live near a school it’s especially important to clear the sidewalks so the children don’t end up walking in the road.
