GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Baystate Franklin Medical Center will host its groundbreaking event on Thursday for its newest facility.
The hospital is currently starting its Surgery Modernization Project at a construction site at the corner of North and Beacon Streets. The foundation work has started since the fall, and 22News was able to see some of the steel work Wednesday afternoon.
Crews used their new crane to lift beams start structuring the building. Part of Thursday’s groundbreaking event will be the opportunity to sign the final beam that will be placed in the new building during a ceremony this spring.
The Surgery Modernization project will include 4 new, larger operating rooms, one of which will be used for MRI and CT scanning. They will have new ORs for larger medical equipment for complex surgeries. The largest OR will be renovated, and larger, more comfortable private facilities are being built for patients and families.
The project is expected to finish by summer of 2016.
