(NBC News) Installation of home security systems can be pricey, but affordable new technology can help keep an eye on the house when no one is home.
The “Dropcam” is a popular model that features an HD camera, easy setup and a free remote video feed. It features a wide angle lens, night vision and sensors for motion, temperature and even humidity.
Some free apps like “Presence” and “Manything” can utilize devices you already have at home, such as an old phone or iPad.
Going that route means no automated calls to fire or police; it’s still up to you to do that.
