Major winter storm heading for Western Mass.

Blowing and drifting snow will make for dangerous travel conditions.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for all of western Massachusetts tonight through early Wednesday.

The Winter Storm Warning is for all of western Massachusetts from 7pm tonight until 1am Wednesday.

Blizzard Warnings are in effect for Connecticut along with central and eastern Massachusetts.

Timing:

  • Monday Afternoon/Early Evening: Flurries or Light snow showers develop, little accumulation possible
  • Monday Evening after 7pm: Light steady snow gradually arrives. Low accumulation at first.
  • After 10pm into early Tuesday: Heavy snow arrives in western Massachusetts.
  • Tuesday Morning through Early Afternoon: Snow, heavy at times. Blowing and drifting snow with white out conditions possible. This is the time for the worst of the storm.
  • Later Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday: Snow comes to an end, blowing snow still possible

How Much Snow?

We are forecasting over a foot to possibly two feet of snow up and down the Pioneer Valley. There’s the potential for slightly less in the western Berkshires, but this will be a major accumulation storm. Areas east of us are likely to see more snow, potentially up to 2 feet of snow. We will be fine tuning our snowfall forecast as this storm gets closer.
