Wing Hospital escapee threatens person with ax

A plow driver disarmed the teen

PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – A 17 year old boy was arrested after escaping psychological evaluation at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer.

Palmer Police Sgt. Christopher Burns told 22News at around 1:45 the boy ran from the hospital screaming without a shirt on. He ran onto the Masspike and into a residential neighborhood. He ran into the garage of a home on Pleasant Street, grabbed an ax, and demanded the homeowner give him their car keys.

Sgt. Burns said a plow driver passing by saw the confrontation, stopped, and was able to get the ax away from the boy.

Police arrested him and charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering, and disorderly conduct.
