Granby school evacuated due to smoke scare

Fire department determined all was safe at East Meadow School

GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) – Students at an elementary school in Granby were briefly evacuated Thursday afternoon due to concerns about smoke in a classroom.

Granby Public Schools Superintendent Isabelina Rodriguez told 22News that a teacher at the East Meadow School identified what she believed to be the smell of smoke in a computer lab. The students were evacuated and brought to the nearby high school while firefighters investigated.

Firefighters determined everything was safe, and after about half an hour, students were allowed back inside. Students were then dismissed as usual at 2:30.

Rodriguez said that parents will receive a robocall with information about the evacuation.
