CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – If someone calls you saying they’re from the IRS and demanding money, just hang up. It’s a fake call.
The Treasury Inspector General’s office reports three thousand victims were swindled out of 14 million dollars in 2013.
The callers threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and immigrants with arrest, deportation and loss of a drivers license if they don’t pay with a pre-paid debit card.
They even alter their caller ID to make it look like they’re calling from the IRS office. The IRS never makes such calls. Just hang up.
