Are e-cigarettes a safer alternative?

Formaldehyde has been found in the liquid of e-cigarettes

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – New research suggests e-cigarettes may not be as safe an alternative to smoking as originally hoped.

The New England Journal of Medicine study found high levels of formaldehyde in the vaporized liquid of e-cigarettes.
Formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen found in cigarette smoke.

The study found tank system e-cigarettes may actually release a much more significant amount of the compound than a traditional cigarette.

Wilmarys Cebrez of Springfield told 22News, “I don’t think there’s a safer way to smoke. I think the safest thing is to just stop.”

One of the researchers emphasized that e-cigarettes are not more hazardous than regular cigarettes. He said the study only looked at one chemical, while there are thousands of chemicals in tobacco smoke.
