(NBC News) President Obama is on the road to push his middle class tax cut plan, a centerpiece proposal of his State of the Union speech.
Republicans are pushing back on that and making a startling move on Iran to show off their new muscle.
The day after the speech, House speaker John Boehner slammed the Obama message.
“All the president really offered last night was more taxes, more government, more of the same approach that has failed the middle class for decades,” Boehner said.
Still, the president’s focus on taxes did win praise from one key Republican.
“We’ll see if we can get a tax reform package done,” said Rep. Paul Ryan. “I’m glad that he sort of held back on the partisanship and demagoguery.”
