CINCINNATI, Ohio (WLWT) A construction worker was killed and a tractor-trailer driver was injured after an overpass collapsed on Interstate 75 in Cincinnati, Ohio late Monday.
According to officials, crews were working to take down the old Hopple Street overpass when a “catastrophic pancake collapse” occurred on a section of the bridge onto the southbound lanes shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Police said a tractor-trailer struck the collapsed section as the bridge hit the ground. The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for evaluation, police said.
“The big-rig driver is very lucky; in a matter of seconds, his fate would have probably been different,” Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell said.
