Unexpected icy rain triggers crashes across the Northeast, including a 60 car pileup in Pennsylvania.

YONKERS, NY (NBC News) A relatively small storm caused big problems across the Northeast Sunday.

From Pennsylvania to New Hampshire, police responded to hundreds of accidents after drivers were caught off guard by slick, ice-covered roads.

The ice caused officials in Philadelphia to shut down the city’s bridges and also caused a 50 car pileup on Pennsylvania’s Interstate 76.

At least five people were killed in crashes blamed on the ice.
