Van crashed into Trolley Barn building in Springfield

Person in another vehicle was loaded onto an ambulance

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police, fire, and ambulance crews were called to a busy Springfield intersection Thursday afternoon, after a minivan crashed into an historic building in the city’s Memorial Square.

The van crashed into the corner of the Trolley Barn, located at Main and Carew Streets in the North End. Our 22News crew could see that at least two people were in the van.

Three ambulances were called in, and our crew saw a woman taken out of a second vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla, which was near the van. She was loaded into one of the ambulances.

The building, which dates back to the late 1800s, was once the maintenance facility for the local trolley lines.

The intersection of Main and Carew Street remains open.
