Girl fell 15 feet from chair lift at Berkshire East

Girl was "fooling around" on ski lift, resort owner says

CHARLEMONT, Mass. (AP) — Officials say a girl who fell off of a chair lift at a western Massachusetts ski area is expected to recover.

Roy Schaefer, owner of the Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont, tells The Recorder of Greenfield the girl between the ages of 11 and 15 was “fooling around” with friends before the fall at about 8:30 p.m. Friday.

He says her friends told emergency responders that at some point on the way up the mountain the safety bar was lifted and the girl slipped out, falling roughly 15 feet to the ground.

The girl was taken to a hospital but Schaefer did not know the nature of her injuries.

Schaefer said resort operations were not affected.
