Firefighters put out fire at a hotel housing homeless

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Everyone is safe after an early morning fire at a hotel in Greenfield. 22News was there shortly after the fire started around 4 o’clock this morning.

Greenfield Fire Captain Andrew Garvin told 22News the hotel is a Quality Inn at 125 Mohawk Trail and it houses homeless people. He said the fire was in one room and was quickly extinguished, but smoke filled the hotel, forcing everyone to evacuate.

They stayed warm in a bus outside.

Greenfield Fire Prevention Captain is investigating, and the state fire marshal is expected to be there because it’s a commercial building.
