Cold weather can affect gadgets left in cars

Extreme cold can weaken batteries in phones or laptops over time

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – With things like shoveling and ice chopping on our mind, it’s easy to forget about protecting the things we travel with such as a laptop, smartphone or tablet. Extreme cold can weaken the battery over time and damage an LCD screen.

It may go without saying that it’s not a good idea to leave your child or your pet in the car. The extreme cold may also make medicine less effective. This includes prescription pills and insulin.

Plus, it’s also a good idea to remove soda, water and coffee from your car to avoid freezing, or a potential mess.

Jessica Ryan of Northampton told 22News, “Well particularly my cell phone because it will die immediately in the cold and if there are others things in the car like water I would probably take that out.”

It’s also a good idea to keep instruments like guitars and violins out of your car because of what the cold can do to the wood and strings.
