LARIMORE, N.D. (KVLY) A North Dakota school bus driver and 17-year-old high school student are dead after a collision with a train Monday evening.
North Dakota Highway Patrol Lt. Troy Hischer says the driver apparently pulled in front of the train shortly after making his first stop of the afternoon.
“The bus driver did not stop short of the stop sign. He entered the tracks is what he did. Entered the railway right-of-way and was struck by the train,” Hischer said.
The 12 other students on board the bus at the time were injured.
The crossing is not marked with flashing lights or a crossing arm. The train struck the front of the bus broadside in its passenger door.
