CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – This week’s bitter cold goes hand-in-hand with flu season. In fact, 43 states now report widespread flu activity, and the season isn’t over yet.
21 children in the across the United States have died from the flu. On Tuesday, our NBC Affiliate WHDH reported that a man in his 20’s died from influenza at Boston Public Health. Since October, there have been 122 reported flu cases in Boston with 32 people requiring hospitalization.
A person infected with the flu can spread the virus even before they start showing any symptoms; they remain contagious up to five days after getting sick. Doctors recommend that you get a flu shot if you haven’t already.
Jodi Richards said, “I think it’s a very smart health decision to get a flu shot and keep ourselves safe and keep everyone else safe and healthy.”
