Horseman galloped through Springfield to show support for the police

He rode his horse through the city's side streets

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – After protests across the country Saturday, support for our men and women in blue spilled onto the street of Springfield in an unusual way.

Jose Rubero, a member of the Puerto Rican Horsemen, saddled up and galloped through the North End neighborhoods of Springfield. Along the way he chanted, “Peace, trust, the police with us.”

He rode his horse through the city’s side streets, stopping to talk with residents along the way who were curious what he was doing and what his message was. “Whether these injustices are perceived or real. Police abuse or misconduct. Either way, it’s not good. It doesn’t create trust. they should meet with the protesters and actually march with them in unison. Police, trust, the police with us. That’s all I’m hear about.”

For years, the Puerto Rican Horsemen have played an important role entertaining crowds at parades across western Massachusetts. On Saturday, Rubero said his goal was to unite everyone.
