First Night traditionally attracts as many as 15-thousand people

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Northampton’s First Night New Year’s Eve celebration is about to reach a milestone.

When the thousands gather for the raising the ball atop the Hotel Northampton to usher in 2015, it will mark First Night’s 30th anniversary.

Maggie Leonard of Northampton plans to attend for the first time. “Well I’ll be interested in hearing the Northamptoners because they’re a wonderful singing group from ‘Hamp high. I used to be a singer when I was in college and high school. It’s fun to be with a local crowd.”

She’s purchased the button that will allow her to attend as many as 20 performance sites all along Main Street. First Night traditionally attracts as many as 15-thousand people to downtown Northampton.
