Springfield Parking Authority is going green

Four electric vehicle charging machines are being installed

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Parking Authority agency recently acquired three new Smart Cars for parking enforcement personnel.

Springfield Parking Authority Executive Director Mary McNally told 22News ticket writers currently drive around in outdated interceptor vehicles with three wheels and no protection from the elements.

McNally called the new smart cars a big step up. “These are electric powered, they’re enclosed as you can see, they have heating, they have air conditioning, they have windows and they have four wheels so i think they’re a marked improvement over what the vehicles were before.”

Four electric vehicle charging machines will also be installed in the I-91 North Garage and the Columbus Center Garage for use by the public before the end of the year.
