Last-minute holiday shoppers out in force

The holiday shopping rush is still not over

WEST SPRINGFIELD (WWLP) – The roads were packed Tuesday night, and it wasn’t just people trying to get home for the holidays. Shoppers crowded the malls and shopping plazas, trying to pick out those last minute gifts.

Traffic was backed up all throughout the on and off ramps of Route 5 in West Springfield, which can make for tough driving conditions.

Leslie Bercume of Springfield told 22News on busy nights like tonight, drivers need to be aware of their surroundings. “It’s time to take extra caution. I mean people don’t realize especially at night because its so dark they can’t see people unless they are wearing something reflective. And unfortunately I’ve had to stop quickly because people just run out in the streets.”

The holiday shopping rush is still not over. Many stores, like Kohl’s in the Riverdale Shopping Plaza, are open until 6pm Christmas Eve. If you want to avoid the last minute rush, or can’t seem to find what you’re looking for, surprisingly you could be in luck. Some websites, like Amazon, offer one day rush delivery, which means if you buy something online by midnight tonight, you can still get it by Christmas.
