SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)- The holiday rush can be stressful for last minute shoppers.
“Just the craziness of it, everybody is straggling around trying to get something for everybody and it just gets a little too much,” Jacob Adeeko, of Springfield said.
It’s the fast paced hustle and bustle of the holiday season with traffic, parking, shopping, and even getting together with family members, but there’s ways to deal with that anxiety.
Holyoke Medical Center’s Director of Behavioral Health, Baxter Chandler said, “Systems get ramped up, our heart rate goes up, blood pressure, we get really stressed, really tense, that adrenaline kind of feeling.”
Baxter told 22News you can avoid anxiety by recognizing that you’re under stress, and being conscious of what you can do to relieve it.
“Setting limits, being able to say no, not taking on too much, making sure they get plenty of sleep, sticking with exercise routines. This is a hard time to stick with diets and exercise but this is really a good time to try and at least pace yourself when it comes to those things,” Baxter said.
Most people told 22News one of the main tactics they use to deal with stress is remembering why we celebrate the holidays.
“As far as stress I’m looking forward to being with family and getting a day off on Christmas,” Jill Kozaczka, of Ludlow said.
