SACRAMENTO (KSEE) – California’s recent storms have brought enough snow for China Peak Mountain Resort to finally open. Skiers and snowboarders can start heading up there on Saturday, much to the excitement of China Peak management and skiing enthusiasts.
The air at China Peak on Thursday was crisp and filled with excitement.
Rich Bailey is the Mountain Manager at China Peak, and said Saturday’s opening is going to be one of the best opening days they’ve had, because there is plenty of natural snow on the ground.
“This is perfect. We have enough natural snow and it was dense, so we have a perfect base. We’re making snow on top of it right now,” said Bailey.
Bailey has called the mountain his office since 1972. He said it’s just as devastating to him, as it is to visitors, when there’s no snow.
