(KARE) Organizers of the Black Lives Matter protests in the Twin Cities are pressing ahead with their plans to stage an event Saturday at the Mall of America, despite warnings that political demonstrations aren’t allowed at the expansive Bloomington, Minnesota shopping center.
The group gained national attention when members temporarily shut down traffic on Interstate 35-W in Minneapolis December 4th. Leaders say it’s important that average shoppers hear the message that there are racial disparities when it comes to police use of deadly force.
“We’re trying to show people that this isn’t going to be the same Christmas for a lot of families because they’ve lost loved ones,” says organizer Mica Grimm.
