Neighborhood hires off-duty cops to fight crime

(KING) – People in Seattle’s Whittier Heights neighborhood are so frustrated they have decided to hire off-duty police officers to help them fight a spike in crime.

Neighbor Gina Frank says she’s been the victim of a home invasion and three car break-ins. She says police response times were slow and the thieves got away.

“We have sort of decided to take matters into our own hands,” said Frank.
