ATHOL, Mass. (WWLP) – A woman who has developmental disabilities was raped multiple times by a 44 year-old man from Athol, state police charge. Richard G. LeFrancois is charged with two counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault and battery on a person with a disability in connection with the crimes, which are alleged to have happened in October and December.
According to a news release from state police media relations, the victim is a 20 year-old who attends a western Massachusetts high school. While at school last week, a “hickey” was observed on the victim’s neck. After the woman had a conversation with a school nurse, the Department of Children and Families was notified, and an investigation was launched by the police and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
State police say they have evidence LeFrancois raped the victim twice, and indecently assaulted her four additional times.
The suspect is currently in a Worcester County jail, where he is being held on bail for an unrelated offense.
In order to protect the victim’s identity, police are not releasing any additional details about the location of the crimes.
