SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people were taken to the hospital following a five-car crash at a busy Springfield intersection Friday morning.

Springfield Police Officer George Jacques told 22News that they are still looking into exactly what led to the accident, which happened at around 8:45 at the corner of Boston Road and Parker Street.. He said that a chairlift van struck a Chevy sedan that was turning left from Parker Street onto Boston Road. The impact sent the Chevy into a third car, while the van went on after the initial crash to strike a fourth car, which in turn ended up hitting a fifth vehicle.

Jacques said that three people were brought to the hospital, one of whom (a passenger inside the Chevy sedan) had serious cuts to the face.

Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free one of the crash victims, who was trapped inside her car.
