Elderly woman died after being hit by car in Palmer

The woman was flown to Baystate Medical Center

PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – The elderly woman was rushed to Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, and Lifeflighted to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after she was hit by a car in Palmer Friday night.

Palmer Police Sgt. Christopher Burns told 22News the 85-year-old woman was struck as she crossed South Main Street just after 5:00 p.m. Friday. Sgt Burns said the victim was not in a crosswalk. She later died from her injuries at Baystate Medical Center.

The State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit was on South Main Street near Strong Street investigating the accident. Sgt. Burns told 22News traffic was re-opened around 10:00 p.m.

Neither the victim nor the driver was identified. No charges or citations had been issued so far.

This was one of two pedestrian accidents on Friday in western Massachusetts. Another person was hit by a car in Chicopee while riding a bike. On Thursday, three people were hit by vehicle in West Springfield, Great Barrington, and again in Chicopee.
