SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – During the celebration of “The Festival of Lights,” the Springfield Jewish Community Center is honoring western Massachusetts people who’ve reached the age of 90.

It’s the annual “Nifty 90s” Hanukkah celebration. It was like old home week for several Springfield women who’ve maintained their friendship since their days in kindergarten together.

Shirley Hersh of Springfield, who is 90 years old, said, “I never thought I’d reach 90 and I’m so glad because friends, parents, were all friends at the same time and that’s why we’re best friends all these years.”

The Springfield Jewish Community Center has a special event each day during Hanukkah. The calendar of events includes a 5-mile Hanukkah road race through Springfield and Longmeadow Sunday morning.
