Woman found dead in Orange river

ORANGE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Bernardston Fire Department found a woman’s body in the Millers River, Thursday evening, about one-half mile west of the Wendell Depot Bridge.

Terry Dun of the Northwest Massachusetts Incident Management team told 22News 52-year-old Cynthia Ayer of Orange was found dead in the river Thursday afternoon. Ayer had been missing since Tuesday afternoon.

According to Mary Carey of the Northwestern D.A. office, no foul play is suspected, and the death is not considered “criminal in nature.” The cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The search for Ayer was conducted by the Orange Police Department, the Orange Fire Department, the Massachusetts State Police Dive Team, Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Athol Barracks, Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Northfield Dive Team, numerous members of local fire departments and civilians.
