HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH)- Hamden police are investigating after a baby fell 20-feet out of a window during a domestic dispute. Two people are now facing charges.
The child’s mother and her boyfriend both appeared in court Thursday in Meriden to face charges regarding this outrageous domestic incident where police say Katelynn Ruff’s baby daughter was either thrown or dropped from a second-story window.
It all started inside a home on East Gate Lane in Hamden Wednesday night. Hamden police say 25-year-old Ruff was arguing with her boyfriend, 30-year-old Christopher Demange, in a bedroom on the second floor. At some point, police say the baby was either thrown or dropped by the mother from the second-story window, and was found on the ground and picked up by a neighbor shortly after. Luckily, it appears the baby landed on a wet cardboard box that shielded her fall.
Hamden police soon arrived and say that both Demange and Ruff were drunk at the time. The police report went on to say that the child’s mother “was intoxicated and naked when they arrived,” and that remarkably, “the baby appeared to be in good condition with no visible injuries” while being treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Ruff posted a $5,000 bond earlier Thursday. She’s charged with reckless endangerment. Both adults involved in the incident are charged with risk of injury to a child.
