HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – A van with a two-year-old inside slammed into a building at the corner of Albany Avenue and High Street in Hartford Thursday afternoon.
Police say a Honda minivan was traveling southbound in a northbound lane, jumped the curb, and slammed into the building.
The child and two men were in the van, according to police. They say that child was taken to St. Francis Hospital for observation, but appears to be okay.
Both men were taken into custody after police say drugs and a stolen gun were found in the van.
“Recovered firearm off the street, some drugs taken off the street, we’re lucky that no one was killed,” said Hartford Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley. “Luckily there was no other cars in the intersection, from what the detectives are telling me if there was another car in the intersection, as they came through, it certainly would have been a fatality at that speed.”
The identities of the those in custody, charges they face, and their relationship to the child are not yet known.
According to police, the building has minor damage.
