ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Police have identified the two remaining victims of an early morning house fire in northern Connecticut that killed four people.
State police said on Tuesday that 20-year-old Joshua Johnson and 19-year-old David Cygan died in the Dec. 10 fire in the Thompsonville section of Enfield. Fifty-nine-year-old Orise Handfield and 36-year-old Cathy Ames also were killed, while five people escaped to safety.
The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office said the four victims died of smoke inhalation and burns and ruled their deaths accidental. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Family friends said Johnson was Handfield’s grandson, and Cygan and Ames were close family friends. Handfield’s daughter and other grandson survived.
A mother and her two sons who lived in one of the two apartments in the home also survived.
