‘Toys for Tots’ on the way to families

40 organizations were approved to be the recipients of donated toys

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News wants to thank you for all of your donations to our Toys for Tots campaign!

On Tuesday morning, local combat veterans collected the toys our viewers donated. They’re now making their way to dozens of organizations to give to children in need.

One of these organizations has over 1,000 children registered to get a toy, but because demand continues to go up every year, there might be some children going back home empty handed.

Cindy Stoval from Springfield Family Support Programs told 22News, “I get worried because it reflects the need within the community. Something’s going on with the economy, you know, with the house holds maybe losing their jobs.”

With your help, we were able to collect thousands of toys here in our 22News lobby, and they’re going to make their way to children in need across western Massachusetts. 40 organizations were approved to be the recipients of your donated toys, across Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire counties.

The Parenting Resource Directory in Northampton helps about 250 families, a number that grows each year. Executive Director Lori Schmidt says there’s one thing more memorable than the reaction of the children when they get their toys. She said, “It’s not even so much what it looks like. It’s the feeling and the things that the parents say when they come pick them up.”

The organizations who will receive your toys are working with these qualified families in need to make sure no child is left behind during the holidays.
