CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – “Hacking is a huge issue and hacking is going to get worse” We tend to do more online shopping this time of year, checking off our holiday gift lists.
Marisol Colon, an online shopper, told 22News, “It’s actually easier and more convenient. I enjoy shopping online you get a lot of deals a lot of discounts and sometimes even free stuff.”
However, while you’re surfing the net, hackers are trying to steal your information. That’s why you should never click “Yes” when websites ask you to store you’re credit card numbers.
According to Eric Warren of Longmeadow, “They ask you to keep your information and then you can just one click order and everything is fine after that. It’s a concern but it’s still very convenient.”
When you are online shopping, you should use your credit card instead of your debit card. Using a debit card gives hackers access to your personal money, and trying to get that cash back can be much more difficult.
Also, shipping costs can really add up in some cases, doubling the price of your purchase. “You have to watch out for the shipping. You buy something that’s like $10, but shipping might be like $8,” said Edwin Montes of Springfield.
Ignoring shipping costs when shopping online can mean spending a lot more than you think; you should try to filter the results by totaling the price, plus shipping to get the most accurate number possible.
You can also take advantage of certain promotions, where you get free shipping if you spend a certain dollar amount.
