Chicopee man robbed while distracted at the front door

The suspect claimed to be a City worker

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Police are warning residents of a door-to-door scheme where one suspect distracts you at the front door while another steals from your home.

On the Chicopee Police Facebook page, around 2:00 p.m. Friday, police received a report of a Breaking and Entering at a house on McKinstry Avenue. The homeowner told police that a man in his 20’s knocked on the door and said he was from the City checking on houses near construction, for rusty water.

The suspect then asked the owner to speak outside the house. Once outside, police said the suspect abruptly left, and got into a black ford pickup with a lot of chrome. When the owner walked back into the house, he noticed several items were stolen.

The homeowner described the suspect as a white male, around 6′ tall, and brown hair.

Police are asking resident to be careful. If someone knocks on your door representing any agency, request ID, and if you still are unsure, contact the police department. Do not go outside to speak to them!
