Woman hit by car in Agawam, seriously injured

The weather and bad light contributed to the accident

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – A section of Springfield Street was closed in Agawam Wednesday night while police investigated a pedestrian accident.

Agawam Police Sgt. Jennifer Blanchette informed 22News that a 42-year-old woman was crossing Springfield Street at Kristen Lane, just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, when she was hit by a car. The woman was taken to Baystate Medical Center by Agawam Fire Department ambulance.

Sgt. Blanchette said the identity of the woman is not being released until the family is notified. She suffered several serious, but is expected to survive. The driver, also a woman, was not harmed in the accident, and is not facing any charges at this time.

The Agawam Police Dept. Traffic Bureau is investigating the accident, but Agawam Fire Lt. Robert Ferrier told 22News that he attributed the accident to the weather conditions and the lack of light in the area. He said the victim was struck by a small car.

Springfield Street was reopened before 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
