RENO, Nevada (KRNV) A winter storm that’s set to hit Northern Nevada and the Sierra Nevada mountains is expected to bring powerful winds, rain and snow in the upper elevations.
Meteorologists at the national weather service are say they’ve only seen a handful of storms this size in recent years, and that in terms of precipitation, it may be one of the most powerful storms to hit the Sierra in the past three decades.
“We are looking at winds picking up late tomorrow, and really howling on Thursday,” says Dawn Johnson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Reno. “We could be seeing the strongest winds we’ve seen in this area in several years. ”
