MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) – Veterans and their families attended a financial education workshop in Monson Tuesday night.

Monson Savings Bank hosted the Financial Freedom event, which included lessons in budgeting, setting financial goals, and dealing with credit card debt. Veterans also had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with financial coaches.

Afghanistan veteran Scott Spencer told 22News he wanted to help other veterans learn the steps to financial freedom. He said, “Veterans just, sometimes they just need that extra help to educate and really look at all of their options so they know what’s out there and what resources are available to them.”

The event’s turnout was smaller than expected because of the rain. Event coordinators said they would help and encourage veterans to access and review their credit reports.
