BOSTON (WWLP) – Republican Charlie Baker is gearing up for his first term as Massachusetts Governor, but before it even begins, he already has to put his managerial skills to use.
His first priority is closing the state’s 329-million dollar budget gap.
When it comes to education, Baker supports expanding charter schools in the state’s underperforming school districts. He also wants more control over the state’s health care system.
Amherst Democrat Ellen Story believes Baker’s experience under the Weld-Cellucci administrations will enable him to work well with the Democratic legislature.
“I predict, actually, that this will be a pretty good year. I think we know him a little bit, he knows us a little bit. I’m predicting a good relationship that actually gets some things done,” said Story.
Baker will be sworn in on Thursday, January 8th.
