Suspect arrested for setting Amherst house fire

The fire was quickly controlled Saturday night

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The Amherst Fire Department has determined that a house fire on Belchertown Road over the weekend was intentionally set.

Firefighters were called to 222 Belchertown Road shortly after 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29th, for the fire. They were able to control the flames quickly, but there was heat and water damage to some areas of the house.

No one was injured, and the people living there should be able to return home early this week.

According to Amherst FD, law enforcement personnel have arrested a suspect, and charges will be forthcoming. The fire is being investigated by the Amherst Fire Dept. Fire Investigation Unit, the Amherst Police Dept. and troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
