Chicopee couple collects Toys for Tots at Holiday dinner

Between 20 and 24 people brought a toy and got a plate

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The spirit of giving is alive and well in one Chicopee household. A Chicopee couple donated dozens of toys to add to the growing pile of toys for the 22News “Toys for Tots” campaign Tuesday night

For the last five years, Jacob Matroni and Laura Amaral have been inviting people to their home for Thanksgiving dinner with the understanding that they bring a toy, and  get a plate.

They created a Facebook event for their dinner, but they invite more than just family and friends.

“Anybody is more than welcome to come,” said Laura Amaral in the 22News lobby.  “They bring a toy, and they get a big plate of food.  And usually a big plate of food to go home as well.”

Amaral told 22News between 20 and 24 people attended their fifth annual Thanksgiving Dinner Toy event.  They said others who have attended in the past but couldn’t stay and eat, also stopped by to drop off toys.

Plans are already in the works for a toy collection dinner next year.
